Is Steam Cleaning Safe for Car Interiors?

Steam can be a safe and effective interior-detailing method when it is used on suitable materials with controlled heat, distance and moisture. It is not appropriate for every surface, and the vehicle manufacturer's care instructions should always take priority.

How Interior Steam Cleaning Works

A professional steamer produces heated vapour under pressure. The combination can loosen grime around seams, textured plastics, cupholders, vents and other detailed areas while using less liquid than flooding a surface with cleaning solution.

The temperature inside the machine is not the same as the temperature that reaches the material. Heat drops as steam travels through the hose and moves away from the nozzle. Distance, movement, exposure time and the towel used to recover loosened soil all affect what the surface experiences.

High temperature does not mean maximum heat everywhere

Suede, microfiber and specialty materials
